Tribute to the ‘master’ Amedeo Salzano thirty years after his death
Perugia, University Rectorate, Friday 17 October 2014

On 17 October 2014 in Perugia, at Palazzo Murena, seat of the University Rectorate, Professor Amedeo Salzano is commemorated thirty years after his death, to remember his life, his thought and his scientific contribution to the development of Business Economics studies.
The study day will open at 10 am with greetings from the Rector Franco Moriconi, from Professors Mauro Pagliacci, Director of the Department of Economics, and Luciano Marchi, President of the Italian Society of Accounting and Business Economics Professors, and from Dr Marcella Galvani, President of the Order of Chartered Accountants and Accounting Experts.
At 10.30 am Professor Roberto Di Pietra, President of the Italian Society of Accounting History, will introduce the proceedings and, from 10.40 am, papers will be presented by Professors Gianfranco Cavazzoni (“The Master”), Margherita Poselli (“Amedeo Salzano, a forerunner in business economics doctrine”), Franco Vermiglio (“On Amedeo Salzano's scientific path: insights and reflections”), Giuseppe Paolone (“On the reliability of financial statement values in Amedeo Salzano's theory”) and Libero Mario Mari (“The evolution of accounting theories in Amedeo Salzano's thought”).

Prof. Amedeo Salzano, born in Naples on 10 October 1908, after graduating and working as a voluntary assistant at the University of Naples, was appointed in 1942 to teach Commercial Techniques for agricultural products at the Faculty of Political Science, degree course in Economics and Commerce, of the University of Perugia. In 1956 he was appointed Associate Professor of General and Applied Accounting at the University of Catania and from 1966, at his request, he was transferred to the same chair at the University of Perugia, which he held until his retirement in 1982. Prof. Salzano was a fervent and patient scholar; he left numerous important works and a unique lesson of love for Accounting History. His scientific output, spanning more than forty years, ranges over many fields and broadly follows the premises of the work undertaken by Prof. Lorenzo De Minico, whose pupil he was; developing many of the doctrinal topics addressed by his Master, he interprets with systematic investigation the most significant aspects of the theory of services and of business dynamics in the formation of income.
Prof. Salzano, who also carried out intense professional activity, during his long teaching career in Perugia supervised the graduation of many young people who today hold important roles in Perugia and Umbria. He also worked tirelessly for the establishment of the Faculty of Economics and Commerce, which until then had been a “degree course” within the Faculty of Political Science, and can rightly be considered one of its founders.
